Description
On the control section we find six buttons and a switch, the latter being used to select 64K/128K to match the EPROM used. The SDS1 has no internal sound generator, since the basic sound is stored in the EPROM, but it can be pitch-changed and pitch-bend in both directions, which is quite a flexible approach. In addition, there is a “run” function that automatically shifts the pitch by an adjustable amount during the course of a fill or roll. All sounds played through the SDS1 are velocity-sensitive, so the harder you hit the pad, the louder the sound (and the stronger the bend, if used), but an external impulse from a drum machine or sequencer can also trigger the sound via a mini-jack connection if required. A red LED lights up when the pad is struck, and this feature alone would keep some drummers I know happy for hours.
